IFRS 17 represents a major change to the way that many insurance entities account for the policies they write and how they present their financial performance. Whilst it is not mandatory until 2021, an early understanding of its effects will ensure that any necessary systems and process changes can be performed with sufficient lead times to test them thoroughly.
This course introduces the main concepts of IFRS 17 and highlights the potential issues that can arise for insurers, using examples wherever possible to illustrate the calculations and accounting entries necessary over the life of an insurance contract. Disclosures will be covered to the extent that they will require information to be produced by an accounting system.
What will you get out of it?
Delegates will understand the information required to make the calculations required by IFRS 17 and how the income statement (in particular) of insurance entities will change. They will also appreciation the systems changes that will be needed to ensure compliance and how changes in variables over the contract life will affect the calculations and the financial performance.
Who should attend?
Accounts responsible for, or involved in the preparation of, financial statements of insurance entities and other entities that write insurance contracts.
