Guernsey tax update

Stay updated on the latest Guernsey tax issues and key developments of the last 12 months.

During this session you’ll be updated on:

  • The latest Guernsey tax issues
  • Key developments of the last 12 months and their implications

Speaker: Mark Savage

Economic crime review

This session will seek to ensure that delegates are apprised of the overarching economic crime threats, driven by technological advancements, geopolitical pressures, and increasingly sophisticated criminal tactics, that are likely to impact upon their mode of operations and challenge, perhaps more often than previously, the notion and calibration of risk. It will also explore that impact upon the subsequent effective determination of their risk appetite (although the vagaries and potential inapplicability of such a concept will also be revisited).

Aside from providing an overview of the latest and anticipated fraud and money laundering typologies and vectors, this session will explore a range of issues including:

  • Cybersecurity Threats and AI-Driven Attacks

Artificial intelligence (AI) is being weaponised by cybercriminals to conduct highly sophisticated attacks. Techniques like deepfakes, voice cloning, and advanced phishing are making fraud more convincing and difficult to detect.

  • Ransomware and Data Breaches

Ransomware attacks remain a major threat according, inter alia, to the World Economic Forum’s 2025 Global Cybersecurity Outlook, with criminals exploiting vulnerabilities to lock down company data and demand large payments.

  • Authorised Fraud and Social Engineering

Organised criminal networks are increasing their use of social engineering tactics, convincing individuals to willingly transfer funds or provide sensitive information. The ACAMS Global AFC (Anti-Financial Crime) Threats Report 2025, for example, ranks ‘authorised’ fraud among the most significant global financial crime threats.

  • Sanctions and Export Control Evasion

The evasion of economic sanctions and export controls is on the rise due to increased geopolitical instability. Illicit actors are exploiting complex supply chains and professional intermediaries to bypass restrictions.

  • Quantum Computing Risks

The future impact of quantum computing on encryption could be dramatic. If current encryption methods are compromised sensitive financial data could be at risk.

  • Regulatory Changes and Compliance Challenges

The regulatory landscape is evolving rapidly. In the UK, for example, the new failure to prevent fraud offence within the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 places greater responsibility on companies to detect and prevent fraud within their operations.

What you will gain

Delegates will leave the session with an appreciation of the threats posed by economic crime (broadly defined), an awareness of key global economic crime-related concerns and an understanding of the of the importance of placing the notion of ‘risk’ and ‘risk management’ into a national, regional and global context and for tackling corporate risk vectors in a proactive rather than reactive manner.

Speaker: Rob McCusker

IFRSs are constantly evolving making it hard to keep on top of all the very latest developments.

2024 saw a number of amendments to existing standards as well as publication of IFRS 18 Presentation and Disclosure in the Financial Statements and IFRS 19 Subsidiaries without Public Accountability.

The IASB work plan is packed with projects, but it isn't just new and revised standards that require focus, it is the ongoing impact of economic uncertainty and climate change are felt by many businesses. In some ways, the biggest challenge facing companies is no longer applying new standards for the first time but considering out how to apply existing standards to new circumstances.

This course will provide an update on all the latest developments and trends in the world of IFRS, illustrating them with practical examples where appropriate and will also consider recent regulator feedback and areas of common challenge.

Attendees will gain an understanding of the following:

  • Discover why people become difficult at work and what to tackle first

Updates will be provided on a wide range of Jersey law developments, including company, private client, property, regulatory, employment, and data protection law matters. An introduction will consider Jersey’s current economic position.

Vicky and Irene will also be looking into their crystal ball and discussing what may be coming over the horizon.

Speaker: Vicky Milner & Irene Bloch

Personal positioning: how to stand out

When put on the spot and asked “what do you do?” most people respond with a job title. That has two problems. It assumes that everybody has the same definition for that label and it assumes that everybody understands the value that role delivers.

This session takes a different approach by separating your identity from the role position or job title. So the next time you’re asked “what do you do?” you have a response which conveys value and can start an interesting conversation.

By the end of this fabulous Masterclass, you will know how to:

  • Define your unique blend of strengths, skills and talents
  • Separate your sense of identity from a role position or job title
  • Identify what you want to be known for
  • Always feel confident talking about what you do
  • Use your "strapline" to start a conversation in any setting
  • Set your action plan to update and educate your network

Speaker: Nikki Wild

Guernsey law update

Unlocking Excel’s potential with AI

AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot and ChatGPT are transforming how finance professionals interact with Excel. In this practical and forward-looking session, we’ll explore how AI can accelerate and enhance the work of accountants — from formula creation and data transformation to automation and analysis.

We’ll begin by demystifying the role of AI in Excel, exploring why now is the time to adopt these tools and how they’ve changed the way we solve Excel problems, find answers quickly, and get through everyday tasks more efficiently.

The majority of the session will be hands-on demonstrations showcasing how AI tools:

  • Assist in writing and troubleshooting Excel formulas with ease
  • Transform messy or unstructured data into usable formats
  • Generate VBA, M, or Office Script code to automate routine tasks
  • Support data analysis, from summarising trends to generating insights — all with contextual understanding of your file contents

We’ll also discuss the advantages of using these tools within Excel itself, such as their ability to work in context with your workbook, understand natural language prompts, and reduce the reliance on traditional Googling, YouTube searches, or crawling through forums.

Whether you're new to AI or already experimenting with it, this session will provide practical, real-world examples and takeaways to make your Excel work faster, smarter, and more insightful.
