UK Charity and Fundraising Regulatory Update
In this session, Nigel Davies FCCA, ACAT trustee and member of ACCA Charity Trustees' Panel will look at the updates in guidance from the three UK charity regulators and the Fundraising Regulator affecting UK charities. He will also look at their current consultations, including the Fundraising Code and recap on existing guidance of interest to trustees. There will be time for questions.
This session will seek to bring delegates up to speed in terms of current and prospective threats and trends in economic crime directly or indirectly affecting the charitable sector, which contains a number of unique vulnerabilities. Consideration will be had of internal and external threats, with the latter including consideration of fraud, bribery and corruption, money laundering, terrorist financing and the ever-increasing threat of cybercrime, together with discussion of forthcoming legislation and regulations, which will impact directly or indirectly upon sector, and global best practice in relation to the recognition and mitigation of risk within the sector.
Delegates will leave the session with an appreciation of the threats posed by economic crime (broadly defined) to the charitable sector, by dint of that sector’s organisation, structure, purpose and high multi-sourced capital inflows, and with a keener understanding of the importance of placing the notion of risk and risk management into a national, regional and global context in order to effectively challenge the notion of fixed threat vectors within an ever-evolving risk environment. Beyond that, delegates will leave with a firm understanding of how current and prospective legislation will is likely to impinge upon the daily working lives of those involved in the organisation, support and monitoring of charities.
