SESSION OVERVIEW

SORP and charity regulation update from the Charity Commission- in his session Nigel will consider the initial outcomes from the engagement process for the new SORP, and signpost practitioners to relevant regulatory guidance and updates from the Charity Commission.

Helen Elliott, Sayer Vincent

Helen Elliott is a Sayer Vincent partner providing Gift Aid, VAT and other tax advice to charities. She leads Gift Aid, VAT, governance, mergers and due diligence reviews, and provides training and facilitation for charities on finance, tax, governance and risk. She is a Fellow of the ICAEW and holds a Diploma in Charity Accounting.

Helen has helped many charities with tax issues including Gift Aid, VAT recovery, property, VAT on membership income, trading and employment issues. She regularly supports clients in dealing with HMRC on these areas.

SESSION OVERVIEW

This session will provide you with an overview of the current reporting regime for charities in the UK, along with an update on current developments in this area.

Rui Domingues, Chairty Finance Group

Rui leads CFG’s finance, people, technology and governance teams. Despite holding two degrees in Civil Engineering, Rui turned to accountancy during the recession in the 1990s and hasn’t looked back!

After a few years training in commerce, he made a decision to pursue a career in the not-for-profit sector and has been there all millennium, in charities, housing associations and adult social care. His career has taken him to organisations such as Samaritans, NCT, Disabilities Trust and the General Chiropractic Council.

Professionally, Rui is an FCCA. He started working for CFG in July 2020 but has been involved as a member of CFG since entering the sector over 20 years ago.

SESSION OVERVIEW

This session will provide you with an overview of what those working for and within charities can do to improve sustainability, including current sustainability reporting for charities and future developments in the SORP.

Employment Law and HR Panel Discussion

Peter Woodhouse, Head of Business Sector and Employment Team at Stone King will be chairing a panel discussion on employment law and HR impacting charities and the charity sector.

The session will provide guidance and invite questions and answers, with the opportunity to get advice from Stone King’s specialist employment solicitors and HR consultants.

Ross Palmer is a Senior Tax Manager at Sayer Vincent, which works exclusively with charities and social purpose organisations. Ross helps deliver a wide range of tax advice such as VAT recovery, application of VAT exemptions, Gift Aid and trading issues – including being able to advise on the potential interactions between different taxes.

Ross supports a organisations from across the charity sector to help develop their own knowledge and understanding of the issues involved. He also regularly presents at external events as well as delivering bespoke training sessions for organisations.
