Innovation in the Charity Sector

Talking points:

  • Who are we, what are we trying to achieve at Samaritans
  • Case studies
  • McKinsey’s 3 horizons as a way to think about innovation (easy, harder, hardest)
  • Design-led innovation (led by iteration, audience, creativity)
  • Why seeking certainty at the wrong time can kill a new idea
  • Innovating within an organisation vs innovating within a start-up. Why is the former so hard? What can we learn from the latter?
  • How to manage risk
  • How we measure success

Lecturer: Neil Gilbert, Samaritans.

IFR4NPO and the future of non-profit accounting

Nigel Davies, FCCA DChA and Sam Musoke, Project Director, IFR4NPO will talk about how the global non-profit accounting project came about, how it might influence the future of charity reporting in the UK, the stage the IFR4NPO project has reached and how to keep updated with developments. Time is set aside for question and answer.

Lecturer: Nigel Davis and Humentum

Networking tips

Networking

In a hyper-connected world, communication has never been easier. Yet remote working and social media can make our social contacts narrower and more superficial. This session shows you how to keep your professional networks healthy, keeping both you and your career in good shape and future-fit.

It will cover:

  • Why networking is more important than ever
  • Who to network with
  • How to network
  • Introducing yourself
  • How to use your network

This is a presentation style format with a chat function for audience questions. While there isn’t an opportunity for attendees to talk with each other in person during the session, they are encouraged to link up with each other afterwards.

Lecturer: Corinne Mills and Jo Thurman

Discovering your strengths and building confidence

Discovering your strengths and building confidence

Understanding what you’re good at and playing to your strengths means that you are far more likely to be successful and happier at work. It also means you can make better decisions about the roles which are a great fit for you. This webinar helps you think deeply about what enables you to be at your best and how to talk about your capabilities confidently. The webinar covers:

  • Who are you as a professional? What helps you be at your best at work?
  • Uncovering your career capital and the richness of what you can offer professionally
  • Identifying your strengths and how to play to them
  • How to use stories to communicate your capabilities to others

Ahead of the webinar, participants are encouraged to think about:

  • Roles, projects or tasks they have really enjoyed – and why?
  • What they think they are good at?
