ACCA UK INTERNAL AUDIT CONFERENCE 2012
INTERNAL AUDIT – UNDER PRESSURE
Internal Audit is under pressure from all angles and assurance is more complex than ever. Risk management has developed into a profession in its own right and Regulatory Compliance teams abound in many sectors. Yet despite this, we have seen the near collapse of the financial services sector, the MPs’ expenses scandal, the BP Deepwater Horizon disaster, hospital trusts failing to meet minimum standards of care and we’re not out of the woods yet. Has Internal Audit effectively adapted to this new assurance landscape? Are we raising the critical issues at the right level and in the right way? Or have we ‘lost our bottle’ and are keeping our heads down?
How about you? Would you have spotted the big risks and succeeded in getting them addressed?
THE KEY FEATURES
Our aim is not just to help you manage that pressure, but to thrive under it. We will help you to understand the different sources of assurance and their relative attributes, plus their impact on internal auditing. We will challenge you over whether you’re really auditing the big risks and how to manage your own risk of giving invalid assurance. We will give you some tools and techniques to influence at the highest levels to bring about transformational changes when needed. And we’ll explore the issues of control circumvention and employee fraud. Finally, we will investigate corporate and risk culture and the impact it has, including how to create a good culture.
